Rajat Roy at the Plassey battlefield monument, inspiration for The Traitor’s Bargain

Rajat Roy - Historical Fiction Author

Rajat Roy is a historical fiction author and business consultant based in Sydney, Australia. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, he blends analytical precision with a deep interest in the untold stories of colonial India. His debut novel, The Traitor’s Bargain, explores the fall of Bengal and the rise of the East India Company through the eyes of rulers, conspirators, rebels, merchants, and men of war. It is the first in a planned trilogy tracing the arc of British conquest and resistance across the subcontinent.

When not writing, Rajat shares reflections on colonial history with a growing community of readers and researchers interested in the legacies of empire.

In this photo, Rajat stands at the site of the Battle of Plassey - where history was shaped, and the story of The Traitor’s Bargain begins.
